GOOD Input

Thanks to Literary Girl and Solace Girl for the input! I laughed about J because I actually remember the time in his life when he was night roaming. He was a smart little one and I can see the need for blocking him off the rest of the house.

My little one also has the ability to open doors...so that complicates things a bit. Pretty soon she will be big enough to also flip the lock on the front door. So I think we will need to install a two way keyed entry like the back door.

So our newest ideas is to put a safety gate in her doorway with some bells attached. That way if she gets out of her crib and scales the gate we have a chance to hear her and take action. My other plan is much bigger and entails baby-proofing the whole upstairs. That way I don't have such fear of her getting into things so quickly. I know it doesn't take the place of supervision, but if things that are unsuitable for her are out of reach, then I much more at peace when she gets away from me. She is a quick little one and since her life's work is to explore and experiment then I need to make changes accordingly.

Also, does anyone know where to find those little plastic knobs that cover the gas knobs on a gas range? Our knobs face the front and I put on some plastic disks that go between the oven and the knob, but it doesn't hinder turning on the gas at all. I know I saw some a while back where the plastic is like a dome that has to be flipped open to get to the knob. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks to all!

Okay, after reading this blog (since I read them in order) I need to update my input. First of all, try the hardware store for those little gas knob covers...or the hardware section of Wal-Mart. They are hard to find and you may have to look on line. Second of all, for the most peace of mind use a permanently installed gate on her doorway (like you would put at the top of the stairs)...not a gate that you put up and remove each night. There are some that are MUCH trickier to open, and if they're bolted to the wall, they definitely will not fall over when she pushes on them! Good luck...my prayers are with you!

What an little explorer! You may want to consider a toddler bed for Sarah. It's only a matter of time before she'll be able to crawl out again. If you don't want to buy an entire bed set you could just put a mattress on the floor. At 15 months I put Katie in her crib so I could take a shower. She was so angry she crawled out and ran at me screaming with her fists flying through the air. As far as gates and stove knobs check out the website onestepahead.com. They have all kinds of childproof items including a magnetic door alarm. As Amy K said you could put a gate at her door. We have a pressure mounted hands free gate(pg.2 on gates at onestepahead)that has worked great for Katie. It won't leave any holes and is VERY sturdy. Good luck and keep us posted!
