He wanted 60 dollars to get some bark
Since our truck died we have not been able to go get a load of bark to cover our side yard. In my ingenuity I started calling people from the classifieds who do dump runs, yard pick up and the like. Since we live only a few miles from the bark pick up place I thought it couldn't cost more then $20 dollars to get someone to pick up a cubic yard and dump it by the side of our driveway. Well, apparently these guys need to commute from Portland because they all wanted anywhere from $35 to $60 to just get the load and dump it (that amount doesn't include the cost of the bark, that was in addition to the cost quoted to me). I don't need it spread out, or put anywhere that they would have to transport the bark in a wheelbarrow. I just need the bark pushed out right next to the driveway. Frankly, I could do the run myself in under 45 minutes and that includes dumping it at my house. This isn't rocket science folks. Oh, and I even told each guy I would help get it out of the truck or trailer. So, if I do the quick math I deduce that these guys are making anywhere between $35 and $60+ dollars an hour.
That's a lot of money per hour. Do you know anyone who makes over $35 dollars an hour without the initials M.D. after their name?
So, I think when my kids get into school I'll just get a junker truck and start making $60 an hour. Actually, I finally had to get my neighbor kid across the street to do it for $25. What a bargain.
Oh, here is a photo from yesterday when the girl was in the pantry.
