Why I am blogging at 3:36 am

One of the special joys of traveling with a small one is that you tend to freak out that your child's crying will wake up your hosts in the middle of the night. So you do everything in your power to help your child go to sleep without incident. One of the places we stayed in was a basement. I kept the bedroom door closed so the host's cats would not jump into Sarah's crib. But that made the room really hot. So then we had to open a window and then her crib on the floor became a virtual freezer. My answer was to let her sleep between us to keep warm and allow us to get some sleep. As you can imagine after 9 days of special treatment we have created a sleep monster. So we are trying to make her cry it out at night. It has worked so far these last two nights...but usually after about 50 min of crying. I know it sounds like child abuse...but she must get out of the habit of being coddled to sleep. Oh, and did I mention that two nights ago I walked past her room and found her standing in her crib? It comes up to about her belly button when she is on her toes. One good throw of her weight and she's over the side. Yeah, the mattress is as far down as it can go already. So as a result we are putting her to sleep in her port-a-crib...and a trip to Toy's R Us for a new crib is on the docket.

Which brings me to the reason I am blogging at (now) 3:44 am. If I am going to be up to hear her cry then I might as well redeem the time. It's just a matter of waiting her out. She won't cry all night. Oh, Lord I hope she doesn't.
